Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster in Movie World to temporarily close for upgrades

A legendary Gold Coast theme park rollercoaster is set to close this week ahead of a planned $4 million upgrade.

The famous enclosed ride, The Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster situated within Gold Coast Movie World will stop operating at the end of January for an upgrade with the roller-coaster’s manufacturer.

The revamp will feature an upgrade to make for a “smoother ride experience,” a new operating system, new vehicles and as well as a “tester seat” at the attraction entrance, Warners Bro Movie World Gold Coast said in a Facebook announcement.

It is understood the ride’s current braking system will be changed to magnetic brakes, old track parts will be replaced and the ride design will be revamped.

The attraction has provided 22 million people with a thrilling and spooky experience for more than 21 years at the famous theme park.

The news of the closure has split the internet with many users upset about not getting to fit in one last ride to holiday-makers recounting their good memories on the attraction, and others that were excited about the revamp.
