Ms. Kameelah Williams (born March 8, 1978), better known by her stage name Meelah, is an American music artist best recognised for her work as the lead vocalist of the legendary Motown 1990s trio “702.” In addition to Williams, members of the group 702 included sisters LeMisha and Irish Grinstead, who were also students at the Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts. The girls were found thanks to the assistance and support of actor/comedian Sinbad and recording artist Michael Bivins, among others. ‘This Lil’ Game We Play’ was the first song they ever recorded, and it became a success for Subway. Following that recording, however, the group went through a reorganisation period, during which Bivins brought Kameelah into the fold and designated her as the group’s main vocalist and lead songwriter. The newly reorganised group was given the name 702, which is the area code for Las Vegas, and was now ready to begin recording their first album. The group’s first album, named “No Doubt,” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 list. Missy Elliott collaborated on the writing and production of four tracks on the album, which included the blockbuster hit single “Steelo” and a remix of the song. Three successful singles were released from the album, including “Steelo,” “All I Want,” and “Get It Together.” A modified version of “Steelo” was used as the theme song for the Nickelodeon television programme Cousin Skeeter, while a version of “All I Want” was used in the Nickelodeon film Good Burger. The sensuous and very emotional song “Get It Together” gave the album its third success and sent it to the top of the Billboard charts, where it peaked at #10. As a result of their efforts, they were awarded a 1997 Lady of Soul Award by Soul Train. It sold more than 500,000 copies in total throughout the globe. 702 opened for New Edition, Keith Sweat, and Blackstreet on the New Edition reunion tour in 1996-97, and they were a highlight of the tour. They made a guest appearance on Elliott’s first album Supa Dupa Fly in 1998, on the song “Beep Me 911,” which peaked at #14 on the UK Singles Chart in that year. The ladies also appeared in the comedies Sister, Sister, and Moesha, where they performed alongside Busta Rhymes’ new singer Rampage and made cameo appearances. The self-titled album “702” was released in 1999, a year after the band’s first album was certified gold. The first song, “Where My Girls At,” reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed in the top 20 for more than 30 weeks, earning 702 a nomination for an American Music Award.
