Ed Sheeran on Course to Make Chart History

Publish date: 2024-06-16

Ed Sheeran earlier this week made an explosive comeback when he dropped two singles, his first new music in over a year.

And now the hitmaker is set to make UK chart history this Friday when his new singles enter the official charts.

The two tracks; ‘Shape Of You’, and ‘Castle On The Hill’ are both selling incredibly well, and combined sales of downloads and streams could be set to give Ed Sheeran a brand new chart record.

According to sales figures released by the Official Charts Company, Sheeran’s two comeback singles are leading the race for the coveted number 1 slot.

‘Shape Of You’ is currently at number 1 in the official chart update with an impressive 83,000 sales after just 48 hours, while ‘Castle On The Hill’ which is about the singers life growing up in Framlingham, Suffolk, is hot on its tails at number 2.

Both the songs are performing extremely well across digital download and streaming formats, with each outselling the rest of the top 10 combined at this early stage of the new charts.

If both ‘Shape Of You’, and ‘Castle On The Hill’ both remain at the top on Friday’s final chart placings, then Sheeran would set a new Official Chart record – being the first artist to ever enter the Official Singles Chart at Number 1 and Number 2 with two brand new releases.

Find out if Ed Sheeran makes chart history this Friday from 5.45pm on Greg James’ Radio 1 show.
